Is your external hard drive doing any of the following:
- Failing to mount on your desktop?
- Not powering up when turned on?
- Making a strange clicking noise?
- Un-mounting itself from your desktop?
Before submitting a support request, please read this:
If this is a brand new drive, and this is the first time you are using it:
- Is the power turned on at the wall (sorry, but we have to ask)
- Are the cables plugged in properly?
- Have you initialised/formatted the drive on your Mac or PC? If not, then read this.
- If you have installed the hard drive into the enclosure, have you connected all internal cables properly?
If the external hard drive has been working perfectly until recently:
- Have you made any recent hardware or software changes to your computer? Check for compatibility of the new hardware/software with your external hard drive.
- If you're on a Mac, please reset the peripheral ports by unplugging all peripherals, except the keyboard and mouse, and rebooting the Mac.
- Have you suffered any recent power surges/black-outs or brown-outs? If so, your power supply may be damaged. You can try a different PSU if you have one on hand.
- Try connecting the external hard drive to the computer using all available interface ports.
- If on a Mac, try repairing Disk Permissions from within Disk Utility.
- If you were writing data to the drive when it dropped out, you may have a software corruption. Try using a data recovery utility like Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro to rebuild the corrupted data.
If you still cannot get the drive to power-up or mount on your desktop, then please feel free to Submit a Warranty Claim.
